Information Regarding Employment
Whether for one season or many seasons, employment with Bear Creek Adventures LC provides a unique experience in some of the most beautiful mountains in the world. While the work is demanding, it is also very rewarding. Our employees have a unique opportunity to spend time in the southern Rocky Mountains, and with the public.
Our operation is based at the Glorieta Conference Center in north-central New Mexico although we do spend many days in the nearby Pecos Wilderness Area. The Conference Center is a Christian based convention center. Activities that we offer are: 1 hour trail rides, 2 ˝ hour trail rides, full day trail rides, hay rides, carriage rides, chuckwagon dinners and wilderness pack trips. The bulk of our business is trail rides.
The area where we work is a mountainous area with elevations from 6,000 ft. to over 12,000 ft. above sea level. There are many streams, springs and lakes in the area. Temperatures during the summer typically range from 50 degrees at night to 80 degrees during the day. Our livestock and equipment are well maintained and cared for. We strive to set ourselves apart from others by the high quality of service we provide to customers and guests.
Employment with us includes a daily salary (depending on your experience, etc.) plus tips. A room can be arranged if need be. As anyone who has ever done this type of work can tell you, it is not easy work. We work hard, long hours.
Since we operate at a Christian Center, we are obligated to follow the center’s rules, and therefore all employees must sign a Glorieta Conference Center Standards sheet. In addition, there are a few other requirements for applicants. First, all applicants must completely fill out a job application including past employers and phone numbers so we can reach them. Upon receipt of the application we will process the application only if the experience listed on the application fulfills the job requirements. Once we process the application, we will need to do an interview and a Practical Test with each applicant. If you are unable to come to New Mexico for the interview and the Practical test, we will allow you to do the interview over the phone while you videotape yourself answering the questions. The Practical test can also be done at your home and be recorded on video.
To do the Wrangler Practical test you will need two saddle horses and a western saddle, bridle and blankets. If you do not have a video recorder, horses and tack, you will need to make arrangements to borrow or rent these items. Once the interview and Practical test is recorded, you will need to mail us a copy of the video on a standard VHS tape.
Finally, prior to an actual job offer is made, we require that all applicants successfully complete a drug test as well as a background check.
While we realize that this process is long, we strive to operate a clean, safe operation with employees of the highest caliber. In keeping with this ideal, it is necessary for us to use this approach as a method of screening applicants. This approach also allows for employees to be assured that they will be working in an atmosphere free of alcohol, drugs, etc.
If you are interested in becoming part of our team, please fill out our Employment Application and mail it to us. You may also include a resume if you’d like. You may contact us by phone or e-mail if you have further questions.
